Beware of the Traps

We should all beware of traps along the way.

The dictionary meaning of a trap is:

  • a situation in which people lie in wait to make a surprise attack
  • A device or enclosure designed to catch and retain animals or people, typically by allowing entry but not exist or by catching hold of a part of the body

Many times we dream big as we are encouraged to do…but no one ever teaches or counsels us how to look out for mine traps or just plain boogie traps along the way. We all face the dangers of falling into a trap. It seems as though every time we make a huge step in life, suddenly without any foresight or fore warning we find ourselves grappling with unexpected challenges that abruptly stops our movement.

There are:

  1. Physical traps – unforeseen illness
  2. Emotional traps – I call them ‘joy stealers’ …these come through relationships
  3. Spiritual traps – these traps turns faith into fear and miracles into impossibilities
  4. Financial traps – debts are overwhelming and creates anxiety
  5. Relational traps – arguments, fights, divorce, betrayal, sexual or verbal abuse

All of the traps noted above are part of the journey in life. I would view them as our four way ‘STOP’ signs – they are strategically placed at intersections in our life as a means of building stamina and longevity. What you do when faced with a trap will determine the level of success you will enjoy.

There’s really no trap in our lives that God cannot make a way of escape. He’s so much bigger than the master mind behind the boogie trap. He knows every move of our enemy and anything that was meant to destroy us…will always work in our favor when we completely rely on God’s guidance.

We are never trapped unless we choose to be. God gives us wisdom and counsel in His Word…Whenever in doubt – go to God. Trying to get through life in our own strength is devasting and hopeless. Even when bad things happen and we do not understand why, we can still trust God to be present and to work on our behalf.

I know how it feels to wait on God. I know how it feels like God is distant and my prayers are not being answered …but then I read the Hall of Faith Ambassdors in the Bible – men like Abraham who obeyed God and miraculously a ram appeared in the bush to replace his only son as the real sacrifice. I read about Daniel being thrown into the lion’s den because of his love for God, and he was not eaten by the hungry lions. I read about Esther who came into the kingdom to marry the king, but little did she know that her sole purpose to being the Queen was to rescue her own people from death. If my God did all those miraculous things in days gone by …. Well certainly, He can deliver me, you, and our households from deadly traps.

It really doesn’t matter what it appears like now – what really matters is how my God mysteriously turns up in the midnight hour. He’s a faithful God, and I’ve made the choice to wait on His timing regardless what my eyes may see now.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
