Facing Anxiety

There are times in my life when I’ve found myself becoming so anxious over stuff that it affects my sleep. I become sleep deprived because my mind, my spirit and soul is at war with my deep thoughts. Sleep doesn’t help if your mind is not at rest.

When the spirit of worry grips you…then the true battle of the mind begins. One thought leads to another until pretty soon you have produced a scary movie all by yourself in the midnight hour. The movie scenes are now on repeat creating a tsunami of unsettling thoughts.

Sleep doesn’t help if your soul is tired. You get up in the morning and you still feel deprived of sleep. There’s no rest for a troubled soul. Anxiety is a train wreck waitng to happen. Anxiety leads to worry. Worry leads to discouragement. Discouragement leads to depression.

How can we break the cycle? Try turning your worry into worship. Fill the atmosphere with songs of praise. Put on the audio bible chasing those demons of worry away. Anxiety happens when we think we have to figure everything out. We need to really trust that God has a GOOD plan and regardless of how much we want to control the outcome – God still have the final word.

Having a sound mind is God’s ultimate goal for His children. “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and a sound mind.”   2 Timothy 1:7

God is on our side. His promises are written in His Word to remind us of them. Joshua 1:9 says…”Have not I commanded you to be strong and courageous” – that’s like a ‘WOW’ thought!!! Yes, our God COMMANDED us to be strong and courageous, so therefore He has done His part. If we find ourselves weak and discourage then …it’s not God or why God, but simply our refusal to obey. Those who trust in the LORD will never be disappointed. God has the final word in our lives anyways. Nothing we do (staying up all night, turning and tossing) can be added or taken away from God’s promise to us.

Don’t stop believing in God because of other people’s behaviour. God never changes, but people do…so don’t quit on God because of other people’s actions and choices. Turn your worry into worship, get into the Word and watch God turn every battle into a blessing. Speak to your mind, your spirit and your soul about the magnitude of your God. Override your negative thoughts with the Word. God has already done His part in the battles we face, now it’s our turn to mimick and repeat His Word back into the atmosphere.

  1. Praise GOD for these words of encouragement – a real eye-opener, that GOD has commanded us to be strong and of a good courage. May we walk in obedience to HIS commands. Blessings!

  2. Philippians 4:6-8
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
