“Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness.
He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.” 2 Peter 3:8-9 MSG
I have heard discussions from people who never give Jesus an opportunity to become their friend saying, “How can a good God send people to Hell?”…well, here’s my personal view on this topic. First and foremost – God is a good God. Period. God never intended for people to go to Hell. Period. Hell was originally for Satan and his angels that were thrown out of Heaven because of Satan’s pride in wanting to be God.
God’s desire is that no one would perish or die in their sinful ways, but ALL would come to Him through His Son Jesus Christ seeking forgiveness. Like Satan, we all struggle with the spirit of Pride. Many of us walk around believing – that we don’t need a Saviour; we have nothing to repent or seek forgiveness for; we grade ourselves as good people; we believe we can live our lives to please ourselves once we don’t commit muder or any serious act against another person; and certainly the list can go on and on because Satan is a deceiver.
Again, God does not wish for anyone to go to Hell since Hell was never made with us in mind. Sin entered the world thorough Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God, and unfortunately that spirit of rebellion has been passed down to us and our children. Satan encourages people to rebel against God. He brings to our minds that ‘If God is really a good God, why would He send people to Hell?’ …then he conivingly works on tricking us to believe that – God is not so good a God after all; there’s no Heaven or Hell; when you die, that’s final; there’s no Judgement Day etc. Satan is terrified of the Word of God (Bible) so if he can keep us back from reading the Word to learn more about how good God is – then he can keep us in darkness and keep us confused with unanswered questions.
We were created to serve God. It’s an awesome privilege to be a Child of God on planet earth; to live the abundant life; and to experience satisfaction in the choices we make as followers of Christ. God is giving everyone space and time to turn from our sinful ways. We know when we do wrong..and God has graciously given us the freedom to make our choices. A thief runs and hides from a cop. A murderer goes into hiding after he’s committed the crime. A child will deny he stole the cookie if he knew he was told not to have the cookie. A man cheats on his wife but keeps on denying it until it is proven. Our freedom of choices will ultimately determine where we will spend eternity. God is a good God and He doesn’t want anyone to go to Hell.
People who reject God’s love by never seeking forgiveness of sins and who never turned from their wicked ways will go to Hell because of their pride. God gives us the free will option to invite Jesus into our lives who paid the ultimate price for our sins in full – it’s our rejection of Jesus that sends us to Hell. Satan destroys people’s lives and then blames God for the havoc in their lives.
We have a choice to love and serve God, and yes, this makes God happy – but God will never force His choice on you…The Bible says, “For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 19:9 ……”But to all who believed and accepted Him, He give the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
Heaven is filled with forgiven people. Hell is filled with people who rejected God’s forgiveness. God is a good God. Satan is a deceiver and an accuser. The choice is ours while we are alive. We all mess up, but we all can be forgiven as often as we ask and turn from our wicked ways.
