Sound Mind

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Having a sound mind is crucial to maintaining our peace, staying strong and positive in our world today. Everything in the media and happening around us drives us to anger, anxiety, fear, and insecurity. It appears that our world leaders have lost hope and the solutions to solving crimes, injustice, poverty, law and order – and have now resorted to fighting and blaming each other – while the devil is having a field day with folks killing each other. It appears that our world leaders have come to the end of their limited resources, capabilities and wisdom. So how are we as citizens planning to survive in a world of chaos and confusion?

The Bible says that God did not give to us the spirit of fear. So therefore, the fear we feel today derived and originated out of our own sinful nature. When sin entered through the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve’s disobedience, the result was fear. Fear did not originate with God. Man’s willful disobedience created fear. Therefore, what are our options to surviving and staying in peace?

It will be wisdom to go back and consult with The Creator who formed us and placed us on earth. Why do we blame and question God for the chaos and confusion? It’s man’s willful disobedience to God that created the mess the world is in. Let’s find out God’s idea on how to maintain a sound mind inspite of what’s taking place around us. Certainly the political leaders, the media and the opinions of the world at large have failed and do not have the solution for maintaining peace.

Jesus said:

“And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John‬ ‭16:22-24, 32-33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Three reassuring truths from the scripture above:

  1. Your heart shall rejoice and your joy no man can take it away
  2. Whatsoever you shall ask the Father in Jesus Name, He will give it to you, that your joy may be full
  3. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; God has overcome the world

Next time you read the newspaper, watch the news, or discuss the happenings – remember that we have options based on our Creator’s original design for our lives – No Fear. Refuse to be drawn into the hype, emotions, chaos and the opinions of power hungry folks whose sole desire is fame. No one has the real solution to what’s taking place around us, because as humans we are limited in our abilities – that’s just the way God made us.

The true solution lies within the power of our God. He overcome the world. As Children of God we have a choice to stand firm on the Word of God who forewarned us that in the world we will have tribulations – but to be of good cheer; God has already overcome the world. I’m standing with God. Our choices are always personal.

We can impact and change lives one person at a time. God has NOT given us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and a sound mind.
