How Much Control Do We Really Have?

It’s interesting how many of us are so diligent and detailed in the planning of our day. We wake up early in the morning, reach for our devices to check emails and messages, and before you know it – we are once again on the fast track of our well planned day. Some of us are the CEO of our own businesses; others are directors of companies; employees; but,  whatever position we may hold, we are so driven to excellence that we can’t wait to get to work.

The train is delayed, the traffic is horrendous, we instantly go into anxiety mode because we are running late for that important early morning meeting. We get to the office with a sigh of relief, and off we go to our meeting. Meeting after meeting until the end of the day. It’s now the end of the work day, and you just realized that you didn’t even stop to eat. The last train leaves at 7pm so you have to make it in time, so once again the same mad rush for the return trip home starts all over again.

Suddenly as you are rushing out the office, you stumble and fall losing consciousness. You are rushed into Intensive Care with a diagnosis of a failing heart. Now what’s next? You are forced to stop. Your life flashes before you, and reality steps in. The truth is, we do not have any control of any given day in our lives. Most of us plan a day, a week, a month, or even months in our lives – but we need to always keep in mind that all our days are determined by our Creator, and certainly not by our agendas. You can eat right, exercise, take your vitamins, and have the best medical advice – but, we do not have any control over what transpires in our lives, and how our days are numbered.

Most people are so driven to making it to the top of the ladder that they never stop to give God a thought. When God is at the centre of our lives,  all our thoughts, goals, and dreams become Christ centred even as we climb the ladder of success and break glass ceilings.

Since nothing happens without His consent anyway, would it not make sense to include Him in everything we do – a mark of true success. No one knows what tomorrow holds, but it sure feels so good knowing that God has control over our tomorrows. It’s folly to think we can control everything that happens in our lives, but …the truth is, only God has control.

I’ve learnt to relax in this truth, ‘Having a relationship with God is priority. Starting the day talking with God creates an inner peace that your life is in His hands. Whatever happens in the day, you are confident that you and God can handle it. God always has the final word, and regardless of how anxious you may be, or how stressed or fearful you become facing a challenge in your life, there’s nothing that will change God’s original plan for you which is to do you good all the days of your life.’

It’s an awesome privilege to be a friend of God. The security and success that come when you walk and talk with God each day super exceeds anyone’s expectations.

“I know that everything God does will last forever. You can’t add anything to it or take anything away from it. And one thing God does is to make us stand in awe of him.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭GNTD‬‬

  1. A truly sobering reminder. In the end, it really is so sweet to trust in JESUS.
Blessings, my dear sweet sister 👭 💖
