Who Started the Competition?

The Book of Genesis as early as Chapter 3 the serpent enters the garden for an unplanned visit with Adam and Eve. It was a visit with no protocol in place…. the first person the serpent approached was the woman. Why didn’t he talk to Adam who was with his wife at the time?

Why didn’t Adam interrupt the conversation the serpent was having with his wife? His position of authority as The Keeper of the Garden was given to him by God Himself. After all, he was the one God put in charge.

Then I want to believe that the serpent – being the most cunning of all the animals was aware of the woman’s insecurities and fickle mindedness that he preyed on her vulnerability. The serpent from that moment continued to place doubt and confusion into the woman’s mind by questioning what she heard from God her Creator.

  1. Satan: Did God really say you must NOT  eat fruit from any of the trees?
  2. Woman: Of course we may eat fruit from any of the trees, except for the one tree placed in the middle of the garden  – we are NOT allowed to eat the fruit
  3. Woman: God said we must  NOT eat, or touch it  – or we will die
  4. Satan: You will NOT die. God knows that your eyes will be opened as SOON as you eat it, and you will become like God, full of wisdom
  5. The woman saw the tree was beautiful, fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom

What a mess is being created by this cunning and deceiving serpent. The woman takes the bait (he convinced her, beauty (tree was beautiful ) was a plus, looks ( fruit looked delicious) were a great asset , and all her WANTS (wanted the wisdom offered by the serpent) not NEEDS were a bonus. Now she’s completely sold out on the serpent’s enticing offer. Too good to resist.

  1. Attractive offer
  2. Beauty
  3. Looks
  4. Wants

Which woman wouldn’t go for all of the above? It’s the best complete package a woman can desire. That’s why the serpent went to the woman and not the man. It’s harder to sell that package to a man.

At THAT moment after the first bite of the fruit  – the consequences instantly kicks in. It’s too late to turn back:

  1. Their eyes were OPENED
  3. Their nakedness became too hideous for them to bear
  4. Together they created a COVER UP plan

Meanwhile, God is walking about in the garden, certainly not because He was bored. God sees all we do. He hears all we say. God is writing all the time. He walks alongside us with the hope we can reach out and confess our wrong doings – certainly not to hide our wrongs.

But what did God, Adam and Eve do?

  1. The first couple heard God walking
  2. They hid themselves
  3. God calls to THE MAN
  4. Man replies, ‘I heard you and I hid. I was afraid because I was naked’
  5. God: Who told you that you were naked. Have you eaten from the tree I told you NOT to eat?
  6. Man: It was the woman who gave me to eat
  7. God to the woman: What have you done?
  8. Woman: The serpent deceived me and I ate

My thoughts: It’s my guess that God never intended for us to feel insecure or to become so overly obsessed with beauty, looks, and wants.

And look at the irony of the moment – it was the WOMAN that the snake went to question her belief in God, it was NOT the man that kept the dialogue going. But the man had certainly failed in his role to protect his wife who was taken from his rib. That’s a shame quite frankly.

I believe that an ugly evil spirit of competiveness was left behind as an aftermath from Eve’s decision to disobey God. Women today are so very obsessed with beauty, looks, and wants that it gets tangled up with jealousy, competitiveness and hatred as the consequences of Eve’s involvement with the serpent.

Young girls, young female adults and women are always competeting with each other intentionally or unintentionally. Whether it’s among family members, coworkers, friends or foes – it’s all just one huge mess.

IT’S ANOTHER DECEPTIVE LIE of the serpent. It was only after the woman and the man ate the forbidden fruit ….that their eyes were opened to see their nakedness. Then, what happens next is quite interesting – they hid and covered up their nakedness.

How many times ladies walk into a room and right away they become uncomfortable for fear of being scrutinized by other women.  Social Media and the multiple filters available online that can instantly cover up the assumed imperfections of women.

Girls as young as 6 years and as old as 99 years struggle with numerous insecurities?  I have 100 year old plus mother in law who is alert enough to still be concerned about her looks. Let’s head right back to the Garden where it all began.

✍🏽✍🏽✍🏽✍🏽 Dear Girls, Young Ladies and Women,

Let us make a pledge to help each other uncover our hidden insecurities, and begin to love each other until every woman arrives to their confidence level. It’s a lie from the pit of hell that someone is better looking than you, or that girl is too thin or too fat, or some other female is jealous or competing with you etc. Let each of us start a revolution to unmask our own insecurities, and to help others unmask theirs.

Our eyes were opened to our nakedness and we are all hiding from each other and GOD. What a horrible shame!

The next time you look down at anyone, or you see someone in need of a self image boost, or you feel tempted to compete with another woman – πŸ›‘βŒπŸš« and think, ‘Am I part of the serpent’s squad team or am I ready to help someone uncover their masks because I know what it feels like to be judged by another woman.

We all were born to shine, but the serpent has created unwanted drama between women. The unfortunate cycle of pain is …. we have passed it in to our children and husbands when we feel threatened or if we need to complain NOT compliment another woman. What a Shameful option.

The fruit was passed on to the man, and he ate. What a curse to pass on to our next generation/s….

God is asking, who told you that you were naked, not cute, too fat, too short, not talented, not smart enough, too sensitive, too shy, too ugly etc ….and what have you done? Cover Up and hide. No way, it’s time to have a little talk with God as He is available. Tell Him about the lies the serpent has deceived you with. You can break free. God can handle the serpent – he’s crawling on his belly and we can crush his head.

Let’s TRY and build each other up.

Loyalty towards each other is action NOT words. People usually forget what you say but not how you make them feel.

  1. Very deep and thought provoking. Excellent material for a sermon. God made us all in His image and likeness. We are beautifully and wonderfully made. Let us therefore walk with confidence in who we are.

  2. I believed God never not wanted mankind to focus on their external body but more on the heart and mind of man because looks can be deceiving.

    Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The perception of beauty is subjective.

External attractiveness has no relation to goodness or essential quality.

    1. Awesome backup verses. Quite impressive. Thanks for your support and encouragement all the time. Women need to raise the bar for all women to be confident 🎈🎈🎈🎈

  3. May we all walk in the light of the Word.
Thank you, Junie, for sharing this encouragement that is applicable to all. Blessings!
