The Commander In Chief

“Now listen to me, you that say, “Today or tomorrow we will travel to a certain city, where we will stay a year and go into business and make a lot of money.”

You don’t even know what your life tomorrow will be!

You are like a puff of smoke, which appears for a moment and then disappears.” ‭‭James‬ ‭4:13-14‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Dear Fake Reality,

I have everything under control for tomorrow. I have planned and set all things in place, I will be gone for a few days. Everything will be just fine as always.
Signed,

Ms. Presumptuous

James says, we cannot speak about doing anything tomorrow with certainty because none of us know what tomorrow holds.

Tomorrow belongs only to The Commander in Chief.

James strongly reminds us that we are just like a puff of smoke which appears for a moment and then disappears. Boasting about our plans for tomorrow without including God is being presumptuous. We don’t own tomorrow. We cannot purchase tomorrow. We don’t have the title deed for tomorrow. Tomorrow belongs ONLY to The Commander in Chief.

“What you should say is this: “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.” ‭‭James‬ ‭4:15‬ ‭GNT‬‬

When we get on our knees and include God into our plans there’s a certain amount of humility and holy fear that overcomes us and takes control of our minds, gentle reminding us that all are our plans are only possible when and if God is included according to His plans for us today.

Our Commander in Chief says to each one of us:

“I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.”‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭GNT‬‬

We as humans do not have the ability to predetermine with the uttermost assurance the execution of our plans or our family’s plans. Walking in humility, fear, grace and reliance on God makes it worthwhile to humbly set our plans into motion.

The Commander in Chief says, He ALONE knows the plans He has for us. It’s kinda of reassuring to know that even the greatest prophet or the most influential pastor cannot predict or influence God’s plans for our lives.

Even our length of days are in The Commander of Chief’s hands:

“The length of our lives is decided beforehand— the number of months we will live. You have settled it, and it can’t be changed.”  ‭‭Job‬ ‭14:5‬ ‭GNT‬‬

The Commander in Chief is so detailed and precised that:

“God even knows how many hairs are on your head.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:30‬ ‭ICB‬‬

I have utter confidence in The Commander in Chief:

  • “The Lord is supreme over all the nations.

  • His glory reaches to the skies.
  • No one is like the Lord our God.
  • He rules from heaven.
  • The Lord lifts the poor from the dirt.
  • He takes the helpless from the ashes. And he seats them with princes, the princes of his people.
  • He gives children to the woman who has none. He makes her a happy mother. Praise the Lord!” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭113:4-9‬ ‭ICB‬‬

The Commander in Chief rules the oceans, the seas and He speaks to the storms. He spoke it into being over 2000 years ago, that EVERY knee WILL bow and EVERY tongue WILL confess that He is Lord. He’s The ROCK and we can totally depend on Him.

“My life is in your hands…” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭31:15‬ ‭ICB‬‬

“None of you can add any time to your life by worrying about it. If you cannot do even the little things, then why worry about the big things?”‭‭ Luke‬ ‭12:25 ICB

Finally, whatever you are going through it is never just for you, someone else is either going through the exact experience or will go through the same thing tomorrow  – God will use you to pull them through.

The Commander in Chief is always in control of EVERYTHING. Period. Full stop. He’s got you and me!!!

  2. One line of a song goes “but I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand”. We are truly dependent on God.
