The Umbilical Cord Connection

The Umbilical Cord connects a baby in the womb to its mother. It carries oxygen and nutrients from the placenta into the baby’s bloodstream. I find this very intriguing as I think about the important role of the umbilical cord between a mother and her unborn baby.

The analogy between the Umbilical Cord and the Scriptures where Christ warns us about the importance of remaining connected to the Vine comes to my mind.

I’ve been pondering for some time now on how we as believers of Jesus Christ deal with life’s struggles. It might be kinda of scary to know that many of our responses during these unforeseen circumstances can reveal whether or not we are connected to the Vine.

It’s easy to quote the scriptures when life is great … and when stormy days come … it’s just as easy to run for cover.

What are some of the signs of a Vine disconnection?

When:

  • Hard times create instability in our lives
  • We stop praying when God seems far away and there’s no immediate answers
  • We magnify our problems by repeating them to any and everyone with the hope that some human being will step in and become God to us
  • Our behaviour becomes very much like the children of Israel when they were traveling through the wilderness… “Why did we come out here to die?”
  • We murmur
  • We grumble
  • We complain
  • We forget all the other zillion times that God bought us out
  • We want God to become our ‘Sugar Daddy’ when faced with financial difficulties
  • We stop praising God when we are faced with roadblocks
  • We question God and His sovereignty

Is it possible that God uses these methods of pruning and shaping to fashion us into our unique designs?

We cannot grow and walk into our destiny and purpose WITHOUT remaining connected to Christ.

The Gardener knows how to shape and fashion you and I.

There’s no believer of Christ who can achieve any level of beauty and maturity without remaining connected to the true Vine.

Unlike the role of the Umbilical Cord  – our connection to the Vine must remain in place until our expiry date on earth.

The next struggle, difficulty, challenge, pain, hurt, rejection, or unforeseen circumstances we face – remind yourself that it’s all part of pruning, shaping, trimming and development that are many times ORDERED by our Gardener Jesus Christ.

The next time you are facing a mountain of challenges:

Try talking less to people about the problems …and challenge yourself to speak more of the other zillion things God bought you through.

And WATCH GOD WORK IT ALL OUT!!!

“Remember how the Lord your God has led you in the desert for these 40 years.

He took away your pride.

He tested you.

KEY Verse: He wanted to know what was in your heart.

He wanted to know if you would obey his commands.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:2‬ ‭ICB‬‬
