THE CHURCH OF NATIVITY:
Interestingly, the ONLY entrance to the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem where Jesus Christ was born has a LOW door called The Door of Humility where anyone taller than ‘approximately’ 4′ MUST bend to enter.
The Church of Nativity was built over the site where it is believed to be the birthplace of Jesus Christ. As you enter through the low doorway it leads you into the scantuary of the church where the ceiling is really high.
To get to the location where Jesus was born, one must once again bend to enter another low doorway leading down a few steps to get to the manger site.
It’s there Mary gave birth to Jesus and placed him in a manger. And it’s there the Magi from the East found my Lord.
Two things came to my mind after my visit to the Church of Nativity – Humility and Childlike innocence.
- Humility: Anyone coming to Jesus – rich or poor must FIRST humble themselves to enter through the LOW doorway (“The Door of Humility”). A very interesting concept. So many thoughts… but I’ve got to keep my blog on point. Great topic for discussion though…
- Childlike innocence: Except you become as a little child you cannot see the kingdom of God.
And today, it’s still remains a choice we all must make to meet with Jesus.
Junie, thank you for taking us along with you on your Holy Land travels. Your words and pictures allow me to share in your experience. I look forward to see and learn what you did while there.
Blessings! Always!

It is indeed very humbling. The physical structure is indicative of how we should be as we enter into His presence.
