Israel Tour Part 4 – Mountains of Jerusalem

Jerusalem is full of history. It’s the capital of Israel. The three major religions are Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Jerusalem is very hilly, and mountainous. The mountains and the hills held my interest during my visit to Israel. Every mountain scripture that I could have recalled to remembrance came flashing back to me.

  • Genesis 22:2 “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the MOUNTAINS of which I shall tell you.”
  • Revelations 21:10 “And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high MOUNTAIN , and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. “
  • Psalms 125:2 “As the MOUNTAINS are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.”
  • Isaiah 54:10 “Though the MOUNTAINS shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
  • Psalms 121: 1-2 “I will lift up my eyes to the MOUNTAINS  – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
  • Matthew 14: 23-24 “After he had dismissed them, he went up on a MOUNTAINSIDE by himself to pray..”

The mountains played a significant role in Jesus earthly ministry. Jesus would teach from the mountainside. He fed the multitude of 5,000 people on the mountain. He spent time alone praying to His father on the mountain.

God often spoke to Moses from the mountain. Elijah, King Ahab and Baal’s prophets met on Mount Carmel to test to see who really was God. Baal’s prophets were unsuccessful and Elijah proved that his God was the only true and living God.

The next time you read scriptures about mountains and hills here’s a peek at what the authors were seeing.

  1. WOW! Thank you for showing me what I was not able to see for myself. This is truly an eye-opener! As the mountains are around Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about HIS people from henceforth, even forever! Hallelujah!
