The devil has a way of making us addicted to real life horror movies all playing inside our heads.
It starts with a thought followed by a cast of characters, and raw footage of unpleasant events that tore our hearts apart. It’s an unhealthy addictive behavior.
One of the most noticeable side-effects of playing out a horror movie in your head is sleeplessness.
People have trouble sleeping while tossing all night because of bad news, imagining how they will survive the loss, and obsessing over failed relationships.
Horror movies are unsettling movies designed to frighten and create panic.
There are real life experiences that can turn quickly into horror movies simply because we play right into the hands of the mastermind himself the ‘slewfoot devil’.
The devil makes a deliberate attempt to destroy our peace and our faith in God.
Just one phone call can turn into a nightmare with sequels that makes our heartbeats increase.
When faced with a crisis in the family, or work related problems, or ill health – the images playing out in our minds become an unedited footage to a horrible story.
Then those imaginary dialogues raises doubts and fears about… whether God had said what He has said.
When you are depressed or sadden by an attack…the horror slideshows instantly distracts us from everything that God has said.
The ‘Ole slewfoot’ devil is the main character and he never gives up.
If he cannot destroy God’s Word, he will begin to cast doubts by coming up with questions about the Bible.
When we begin to question the validity of the Word of God then we are heading down the slippery slope playing right into the hands of the wicked devil.
The devil has been casting doubt on what God has said since back in the Garden of Eden with Eve.
Doubting the promises of God is a tool that the devil has used forever.
If horror movies make us cry….then we need to switch the channels to songs like “Our God is awesome, He can move mountains, keep us in the valley, hide us from the rain”.
When we find ourselves going into overdrive about a crisis at hand… then it’s guaranteed that we will walk out feeling dejected and lonely.
The movies keep on coming… and the Word of God becomes unappealing and unrealistic.
Exactly how the devil wants us to feel about God and His Word.
I don’t know how I would have survived the numerous attacks if I didn’t know how to trust God.
To anyone who trusts and depends on God…He gives them peace.
When I begin to overthink and tempted to doubt God – I speak very firmly to myself and bring my mind back on the Word of God.
I walk out of doubts and fears by singing and holding my head up.
Isn’t it time to tell that problem that we have a BIG GOD who said….it’s going to be alright.
I’ve never known one person who decided to take God at His Word and regretted it.
The post draws me back to the words of the songwriter:
“My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand”
All other ground is indeed sinking sand.
