Singing is not only for those who can sing professionally. Singing is good for all of us. All of us are not stage worthy singers like Whitney Houston or Tina Turner…but we all should be singing whether in the shower, in our cars or just hanging around the house.
Sing first thing as you get off your bed, sing some time/any time during the day, and most importantly…sing before you get into your bed at nights.
Someone said, it takes 21 days to form a habit…so starting today isn’t a bad idea.
Singing reduces stress, relieves anxiety, and makes you feel happy.
Regardless of what we may sound like, singing can take your mind off the day’s troubles and gives you a boost. Singing can turn your sorrow into dancing.
There’s a time to weep, a time to laugh, a time to sing, and a time to dance.
Stay with me as I try to show you just how life changing singing is …and how it can instantly change the outcome of a bad situation.
“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”
What time was it? Midnight.
What did Paul and Silas do? They were praying and singing hymns to God.
Who was listening? The other prisoners.
Midnight hours are the worst hours in the 24 hour day. Everything seems to grow darker at midnight. Our thoughts take on it’s own agenda leaving us feeling hopeless, scary and lonely.
What can we positively do in the midnight hour when we are held as prisoners in our own home? SING! PRAY! SING!
Who is listening? Our family members who are also held as prisoners because when one is hurt, everyone is affected.
“Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, which shook the prison to its foundations.”
When Paul and Silas sang what took place?
There was a violent earthquake that shook the prison to its foundation.
Very interesting that the very foundation of the prison was affected by their singing.
Singing hymns to God can shake the very foundation of those things that stand firmly in opposition to you and I.
Arguments, harsh words, and fights are unproductive. No one wins…it spirals quickly out of control leaving everyone defensive and wounded.
SING like if everyone else is singing…because everyone is listening.
“At once all the doors opened, and the chains fell off all the prisoners”.
Singing opens doors that once held us as prisoners. We don’t only set ourselves free … but others in our homes that are also held hostage to their past, present and future.
“The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he thought that the prisoners had escaped; so he pulled out his sword and was about to kill himself.”
Acts 16:25-27 GNB
When our enemies wake up and see our prison doors open…they will be terrified of their actions and injustice done to us.
Singing is our defense. It’s a weapon…it creates havoc and torment in the minds of those who come up against us.
Finally, my prayer is, that we will make a deliberate choice to sing.
Our goal is to be always singing when the evening comes.
