Fighting Anxiety

Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick”

When there’s a delay of something you are eagerly expecting it brings on such a sick and painful feeling. A delayed flight causes anxiety. A long awaited response leaves you in limbo. Without hope we get desperate and will do almost anything to get a favorable response.

Winter season is from December 20 to March 20 …during the month of February, the sun shines, the trees show small buds and the birds are chirping. You think Spring has arrived early. But in a few days, the grey clouds return, the coldness lingers, the birds go quiet again, and the snow falls …then it looks like Spring will never come.

Sometimes we think our troubles are all gone forever…but then trouble returns and our spirit gets broken…Hope deferred makes the heart sick. The Psalmist David teaches us how to speak to ourselves when our heart is troubled:

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will YET praise him,
my Savior and my God.”

When we are feeling down in the dumps, when we are walking around with tears in our eyes and feeling hopeless … it’s time to encourage yourself to put your hope in God. A life without Jesus Christ is no way to live. We all need a Savior!

It’s time to fix your eyes on Jesus and do not overthink your troubles. Look in the mirror, put a smile on your face and say out loudly “My help comes from the LORD!” as many times it takes to convince yourself that your Source is in Christ alone.

I have a personal routine that works for me when I feel overwhelmed … I do a drop on my knees and tell God ALL my concerns. It works like magic.

Let’s read the scriptures and remain grateful that in moments when we feel anxious we have a Savior who will listen to our concerns.

  1. The scripture says β€œ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
