In our younger years when we wrote our names, we may have asked ourselves, ‘Hey, what is the meaning of my names?’ I know that I’ve asked myself that question many times, and to be honest, sometimes I’m still shaking my head over my name…so I decided since I will not change my birth name … I will leave footprints wherever my name is mentioned.
“What’s in a name? “That which we call a rose by any other name would smell sweet” says, Williams Shakespeare.
Meaning – what matters most is who you are, not what you are called.
If you have a June in your life, never let go of her, she’s very special (haha). So….I’m happy with my name. Who I am is more important than what I am called.
From Genesis to Revelation God refers to Himself as the Trinity. “Tri” meaning three. “Unity” meaning one. They are all three in one. You talk with God. Jesus intervenes on your behalf. The Holy Spirit is your guiding light that teaches you all that you need to know.
Humans are by far a very needy people because we live in a sin-fed world. Sin has made a mess of our lives … we live with other humans some of whom are carrying very weighty loads, and so our needs are never-ending. I’m thankful to God for taking care of every aspect of our lives by giving us names which we can call Him as our various needs rears it’s ugly heads in our lives.
As you face your unique needs, you can personalize your prayers by calling God “JEHOVAH” . Below I’ve selected a few names of God with their meanings:
Jehovah-Elohim – “All Powerful God”.
El Shaddai – “God Almighty”
El Roi – “The God who sees”
Jehovah-Jireh – “The Lord will Provide”
Jehovah-Rapha – “The Lord that Heals”
Jehovah-Shalom – “The LORD is Peace”
Jehovah-Sabaoth – “The LORD of Armies. A reminder of the wonderful truth that He fights our battles, wins our wars and is the refuge we can run to in time of need.
Today, I want to pause and give thanks to the LORD who heals … our Jehovah-Rapha. So far in 2019 my extended family have experienced countless times of Jehovah-Rapha as our Healer. “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”
Psalms 90:1-2 KJV
My nephew two and a half years ago fell off a ladder and broke his spine causing acute spinal injury. He had a total loss of muscle functions and any feelings from his waist down. His life quickly spiral downhill which took a toll on him mentally, emotionally and socially.
As with spinal surgery, there are risks and complications. Although Alex had the surgery done we were told that there was no way the damage done could be reversed and he will be wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.
At age 31 years he felt like he was now living on borrowed time as his dreams and aspirations fell apart before his eyes.
Confined to a wheelchair, the weekly doctors’ visits were taking a toll on him in addition to all the prescribed medications to control pain. His life was turned upside down.
God is never late, He’s always on time. One day is like 1000 years and a 1000 years is like one day with God. God is teaching us during our waiting periods. When all else fails, Jesus remains the same.
Two years later after the surgery with the help of a very persistent and caring personal coach and pool therapy, Alex began walking again with his wheelchair looking on (wink).
Our God, Jehovah-Rapha (The LORD that heals) publicly displayed His healing power, and it’s been one month since my nephew regained movements despite what the medical professionals said.
His story is remarkable and it proves that Jehovah-Rapha is still at work today. Our prayers weren’t answered immediately…but two and a half years…we have the reports to show and the young man with his wheelchair, crutches, and all the paraphernalia to show…it is no secret that God can do it again and again.
His story is way too long for one post but the healing powers of our Mighty and All Knowing God can quench the thirst of anyone who needs a miracle in their own lives if they will only keep believing.
I’ve got to wrap up this post, but not before one final encouragement “Jehovah Rapha is His Name. Mighty Warrior, great in battles, Jehovah Rapha is His Name.”
We are all a miracle waiting to happen. We can expect our own miracles whatever they may look like in our life.
What a mighty GOD we serve! There is nothing too hard for GOD. HE sees. HE knows. HE is the Rewarder of those who diligently seek HIM. 🙇🙏
