When the Fence is Removed

According to Google a fence can help provide a safe play environment for children and pets, keeping them in the yard where you can keep an eye on them and preventing entry from unwanted strangers or animals.

A good fence can help protect your family and your possessions from those who would enter your premises for the wrong reasons.

It’s interesting to overhear on a conversation between God and Satan about a fence.

God: What have you been up to Satan?

Satan: Going here and there, checking things on earth

God: Have you noticed my friend?

Satan: So, do you think he or she fears and honors you for nothing? Have you not put a fence around them and their household and everything they have?

Satan: You pamper them like spoil kids making sure nothing bad ever happens to them and their family. You bless everything they do, and they can’t lose

Satan: But what do you think would happen if you reached down and took away everything that they have? I’m sure they would curse you right to your face, that’s what they will do

God: Okay, let’s see. Go ahead and do what you want with all that is theirs. Just do not hurt them

What a conversation to be privy to? It’s the kind of conversation that still goes on today as it did thousands of years ago. In John 15: 13-14 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.”

God knows all his friends and he knows those who will never leave him when the fence is removed, making them vulnerable during tough times. Regardless if things just don’t add up loyal friends reassures you that they are not going anywhere and that you are never going to be alone.

A true friendship with God grabs your attention away from everything you are doing when the walls comes crashing down to engage in a heart to heart conversation to understand the whys.

And just like a reliable friend – God speaks back reminding you that the test produces perseverance so that you may be mature lacking nothing.

People who are true friends talk to each other and spend time together. They trust one another and help each other when they are in trouble or are hurt. The truth is, for God to allow Satan to remove the fence of protection from around you shows a certain level of friendship that could have only grown out of difficult testing sometime before.

God knows your trust was never in the fence but in him. He’s confident that you will rise back up and take courage because he always has your back.

Your friendship with God doesn’t make you vulnerable to Satan but makes you valuable for kingdom purposes. God walks with you through shadows of darkness and uncertainty leaving footprints in your heart. There’s nothing like having a loyal, dependable, healthy friendship with God.

I find it very fascinating how God interrupts Satan and asks him if he has observed his friend. When God can stop the accuser himself Satan and ask him if he has been observing his friend you know that the friendship has been tested and tried. It’s the real McCoy kind of friendship.

The amazing thing is, God gives Satan a limit (do not hurt them) and that’s very reassuring because we know Satan doesn’t have freedom to do whatever he wants with us otherwise we would have been destroyed and left without hope.

Satan is limited, very limited in his strategies. Our trust is never in the fence but in the friendship we have with God.
