Pluses and Minuses

A plus is a good thing. It’s something that makes a choice more pleasant and tolerable. Example, I prefer the first appointments of the day because I get in and out without losing much of my day and that to me is a plus. There are pluses and minuses, advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons in everything pertaining to life.

Then, there are those times in life when things just don’t make sense or as some folks say ‘things are not adding up.’ When things are not adding up – it’s a good time to pause and consider giving up something, deleting that message, or reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason.

Life becomes more unpleasant when you know you are unhappy with the weight you are carrying, but you keep adding more and more to your already crammed suitcase trying desperately not to break the zipper. At some point you’ve got to unpack and believe that you are making the best decision for yourself and for others.

Stop! Look for your wins and the pluses will encourage you to finish strong. The moment you begin to believe in yourself again, you will feel the excitement and life takes on a whole new meaning. See the advantages and disadvantages and let wisdom rule.

Warning: Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Empty the water in the bath tub but not the baby. Don’t burn down the house trying to kill the mouse. It’s only a bad day, not a bad life.

Regardless of how tricky life’s issues sometimes get – surround yourself with people who inspire you to be a better person than you were yesterday. They are as real as you can get. They see your worth and push you to achieve your goal, and you both win. Affectionately known as the  ‘no drama’ team.

You learn a lot about yourself not from pluses only, but minuses as well. Someone said that life sometimes gives you a test then a lesson. And that’s my friends is the difference between going to school and living the adult life. Stay strong! One of the pluses of getting older is, you get to drop off excess weights and excuses, and you set limits to what you can carry.

Trust God when things don’t add up. He makes himself available to listen to all your anxieties without interruptions. Finding your safe haven in him means even if others succumb to misfortune all around and drops likes flies right and left, no harm will even come close to you. He orders his angel to guard your footsteps wherever you go.

Stay with God in your pluses and minuses – just stay with God. It doesn’t matter who come or go – stay with God because it’s the only one place where you are guaranteed to be protected. It’s hard to recover without God at your side, it’s like trying to navigate your way back to normalcy on a battered ship.

Finally,  Psalms 91:14-16 MSG says:

If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
    “I’ll get you out of any trouble.
I’ll give you the best of care
    if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times;
    I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I’ll give you a long life,
    give you a long drink of salvation!”

Keep company with God and you will get the best of everything. It’s always a plus and never a minus.
