Amazing Grace!
God’s amazing grace continues to amaze me each and every day. I trust we never mistake God’s silence as though He cannot see or know our thoughts before they even come to us. It’s plain arrogance to assume that we will not be held accountable for our actions because God is a gracious God. God’s grace should humble us and cause us to reverence His presence in our lives.
God gives us a sense of right and wrong and even though the battle remains a constant struggle of will power it’s up to us to always make the right choice. Impulses come dressed in everything that we secretly desire but the end often leads to a lifetime of regrets.
It’s better to look ahead and prepare, than to look back and regret. Every day our life is about making choices.
The hidden secret about God giving us a manual in the form of the Bible is to give us guidance to a victorious life protecting us from our own choices that will eventually harm us. We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past but because of God’s grace we are not our mistakes, we are not our struggles, but who we choose to become after all the hard knocks in life.
The Bible isn’t a Book about dos and don’ts but giving us guidelines to keep us blessed, safe and happy as we battle with impulses.
The thoughts we feed the most usually win. When you lie in bed awake and replay all those things you didn’t do right remind yourself that you can build on failure. Close the door on everything that wants to shackle you to the mistakes of the past.
Don’t forget the lessons you have learned but don’t live with the pain. The truth is – it’s not the end of your story. It’s only the start of your next chapter.
“Amazing Grace” by John Newton is one of the most recognizable songs in today’s world:
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound. That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear. The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; ‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be. As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the veil, a life of joy and peace.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years. Bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’ve first begun.
Finally, God did not come to save those who think they have it all together but for those like you and me who know that they need forgiveness. My friends, that is Amazing Grace.
PRAYER TIME: Father, teach us to let go of the regrets in our lives and help us to make choices that will honor you as we daily battle with impulses. Heal our emotional pain as we work through our next chapters. In Jesus Name, Amen
