Today’s Topic: Get Out of the Slump
Emotional exhaustion is when someone asks you – “What’s wrong?” and you answer, “I’m just tired.” Then they say, ‘take a nap.’ As grownups we all know that taking a nap and waking up does not always cure tiredness.
Sleep doesn’t help if it’s the heart that is troubled. It’s frightening to hear even young people as young as 12- and 13-year-olds are experiencing insomnia and depression.
It seems like I am repeatedly saying the same thing over and over again … but there’s really no other way to do life but with God. So, I will keep being that voice in the jungle of life that Jesus is our only hope when the pressure of life saps the strength out of us.
No pep talk, psychiatrist, vacation, drugs, or any earthly possession can give you a true peace of mind. Those things may help numb your fear, but they can’t permanently remove the fear.
Only God’s presence in your life can do that. We can wear a mask to prevent catching a virus, but we cannot mask pain by laughing the loudest in the room.
Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads. I will give you rest. Accept my work and learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will find rest for your souls. The work that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is not heavy.”
You cannot silence the thoughts that comes at 3 am in the morning. The darkest night brings on anxiety and fear. The tiredness of the soul cannot be cured by scrolling through social media or staying up all night speaking with your favourite person on the phone.
The truth is, we are still under ‘manufacturer’s warranty’ as long as we are alive. We must go back to the Creator when the roller coaster of emotions would not stop.
Winston Churchill said, “If you are going through hell, keep going.”
Breaking news – you will find Christ waiting at the exit door pleading with you to bring your heavy loads in exchange for rest.
When our mind gets bent out of shape, the Manufacturer would fix the wrongs making it right. He takes the good, the bad, and the ugly reshaping them into healthy thought patterns.
The only permanent fix to feeling emotionally exhausted is found in Christ alone. I end with the lyrics of ‘In Christ alone.’
In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song. This cornerstone, this solid ground firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My comforter, my all in all here in the love of Christ I stand.
Prayer Time: Father, thank you for helping us to walk through hell like a champion. Our minds are restored as we exchange our fear into faith. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Take care of your mind, body, and soul. Don’t let the cares of this world and the words of your enemies get you into a depression. God heals the brokenness of our lives. Give Jesus a chance.
