A Spirit Of Rebellion

The dictionary meaning of rebellion is – a bold disobedience or opposition to any kind of authority or control. A rebel is one who does NOT like rules. Rules are instructions that tell you what you are allowed to do and what you are not. I believe that rebellion always begins in the heart, and it is the root cause of everything that gives way to sin.

Rebellion against authority is a serious matter in God’s eyes. God says, to obey is better than sacrifice. A rebellious person defends themselves and sincerely believes that they have everything under control — even if everyone else is observing the bottom of their barrel is falling out.

Two questions a rebellious person asks when confronted about their choices — “What are you talking about?” and “What’s wrong with that?”

The Bible says, God only wants us to obey. A rebellious person is a rebel — and if and when they pray — they receive nothing from God.

The spirit of rebellion drives folks to chaos and leading a dysfunctional life. It like having your hem caught on a spinning wheel. It never crosses their mind that God sees and keeps an account of their choices. Strangers will take advantage of them and they will not even notice. Their arrogance is as big as a stadium and they become a public disgrace. They remain completely oblivious to God despite all the signs.

Rebellion is saying — I know who YOU want me to be — but — I’m going to show you who I actually am.

Because we all have the seed of rebellion deep within us — it’s wisdom to determine in our hearts that we would seek God’s approval for the choices we make.

Psalm 51:4-6 English Standard Version (ESV)

4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
